Age discount on travel with debit card on bus, tram and metro

Gepubliceerd op:

Public transport passengers can now get a 34% age discount when travelling with a debit or credit card in bus, tram and metro. This is possible for children up to 12 years of age and for senior citizens from 65 years of age. To get that age discount, travellers must first register a payment card in OVpay’s mobile app, where they can then link their age discount to that payment card. For this, OVpay does not exchange customer or payment details with banks.

With this new option in the OVpay app, a debit or credit card is increasingly becoming a fully-fledged alternative to a public transport chip card. Some transport companies have already allowed you to link other discount products to a debit card for some time, such as GVB Flex in Amsterdam.

No age discount on the train

With railway companies like NS, you cannot travel with age discounts, even with an OV-chip card. NS does have age-related discount products for which travellers have to pay a periodic fixed amount. NS only offers these for personal OV-chipkaart, not for debit and credit cards.
