Acceptgiro (discontinued)

For many years, the Acceptgiro was a trusted paper payment method in the Netherlands. Since mid-2023, this payment method has been discontinued due to a sharp decline in its use. Many senders have switched to alternatives such as European direct debit, iDEAL QR codes, and payment instructions. Each organization chooses the replacement method that best suits its working methods.

Acceptgiro

For decades, the Acceptgiro was a widely used paper payment method for organizations that wanted to collect payments from consumers. Companies and institutions sent an Acceptgiro form along with their invoices or requests for donations. The recipient could then sign the form and send it to their own bank to make the payment.

However, the use of Acceptgiro declined sharply. Whereas tens of millions of Acceptgiro forms were once processed, by 2022 there were only 3 million. That is why brand owner Currence announced at the end of 2021 that the Acceptgiro would be phased out completely by mid-2023. This brought an end to more than 40 years of use of a unique paper payment product that was used by countless organizations.
